It’s PUMPKIN SEASON!! Or at least it is according to Starbucks and Dunkin. September signals the ‘end of Summer’, when the yellow school buses return to the road and the leaves start to turn gold, orange and red. The temperatures bring cool evenings and frosty mornings. It also signals the passing of yet another season and our summer memories begin to fade.

Time passes so quickly – seasons come and go- and before we know it, we are passing through not only climate seasons, but seasons of our life. September is a good month to take stock of your life and ask yourself if you are happy in your current ‘season’ and planning for your ‘vacation of a lifetime’ in retirement. If you are being honest with yourself, you may find you have some work to do.

One of our favorite financial planning podcasts you may want to follow!

How can you move the needle on your planning so you are confident as you approach your next season that you are going to be okay? Make time, sharpen your pencil, and consider these things:

  • Can you afford to increase your deferral by 1% or 2%?

  • Should you be making ROTH contributions, or should you consider if an ‘in plan ROTH conversion’ makes sense for you?

  • Take time to review your current investment allocation. Are you comfortable with your choices if there is a sudden market correction?

  • Should you seek out the guidance of a financial planner to help you with your unique situation and revisit your roadmap to success? Are you on track?

Your future self will thank you for your attention and commitment to your retirement planning, so that you may continue to make happy memories through all the seasons of your life.
